What's with all the Rescue Dog posts on social media?

Updated: Dec 31, 2024

If you have ever met me, we probably talked about dogs at some point! I am passionate about rescue dogs and the need for change in our animal welfare priorities. I currently have two rescue dogs, Mia and Betsy, and they are my best friends (along with my husband's big old hunting dog Chief!). They are spoiled, loved and cherished members of our family, and that's the wish I have for every dog: to find a family where they are loved.

Not all dogs are this lucky. Texas, and much of the south, is a pretty rough place for dogs. Shelters are over-run with strays, owner surrenders and breeder cast-offs , and many of these dogs are euthanized simply for lack of space. It's a heartbreaking situation and unfortunately many people are unaware of just how bad things are.

Every day I post the euthanasia list as a Hail Mary that someone will see them and adopt or foster. It also serves as a way to educate the public that there is a crisis going on, dogs are losing their lives, and we as a community need to take action. In Texas alone, 82,000 dogs and cats were euthanized in shelters in 2023. We can help. Support rescues. Adopt or foster. Tell friends and family what is happening. Spay and neuter pets.

On this page I will occasionally highlight a shelter, a rescue, or a transport effort. There are so many facets to changing this situation for the better and I want to support them however I can. I believe that life is precious, and dogs are the best and truest friends that we can have. They deserve so much more than being cast aside and forgotten.

So if you follow my socials, expect to see these faces each day. Each and every one of them deserves a chance. This is something I believe in and I hope you will join me in being a part of the solution for animals in need, however you can.
